A Day In The Life - Wesley Henderson, Technical Manager

15th March 2017

Wesley Henderson

What time did you wake up at this morning?

I woke at 6:30am.

What words would you use to describe your job?

Technical, Directive, Supportive, Innovative and Rewarding.

Where do you spend your day?

My day is spent between my office / department and various review meetings (Operations, Manufacturing, Design and Quality).

What does your job entail?

Directing and providing advice and guidance for my teams but also cross functionally, in relation to Engineering / Manufacturing / Facilities / IT and Quality.  Also making decisions and looking at future strategy.

Is it 9-5pm?

Physically more or less, but the world of electronic communication doesn't see 9-5 numbers these days!

How did you get into this line of work?

Over the years my career has progressed from graduate to Senior Design Engineer through Production and CI Management to Design Manager roles before joining Leckey, so I bring a wealth of experience in Design, Manufacture and Production.

What personal qualities are required to do your job?

Being open-minded (to change & new ideas), objectiveness and being fact driven.

What are the biggest challenges in your job?

Juggling the various projects with resources to meet timescales while still keeping everyone happy! :)

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing members of my team develop in their careers and deliver good results, knowing that in doing so we are helping to change people's lives.

What is the best piece of advice you could give to a new person joining your team?

Be confident in your own ability and stand-up for what you know, but don't be conceited.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like outdoor activities, and if they involve wheels all the better!

Any fun / interesting facts about you?

While I've competed (and still do) across a range of cycling and equestrian sports, the highest result to date has been the Irish Championships in Horse Driving Trials (HDT).

What time will you get home at today?

Usually about 6:30pm or 7pm!

Thank you Wesley.
