The Role of Early Intervention in Therapy
Early Intervention is defined by Stephens & Tauber (2001) in two parts, ‘early refers to the most critical period of a child’s development between birth and three years of age. Intervention refers to programme implementation designed to maintain or enhance the child’s development in natural environments and as a member of a family’(p 708 Stephens&Tauber 2001).
Numerous studies have identified the importance of early intervention and many benefits have been reported (Ayres 1979, Gulnerick 1998, Farel et al 2003).
