Beginning with the fundamentals of posture and multidisciplinary goal setting we then move onto plinth assessment and range of motion practical's. Following this, we move onto set up strategies for children with a range of complex positioning needs, led by latest clinical literature and assessment/outcome measure guidelines. We finalise the day working as a team through a variety of case studies and have the opportunity to get hands on with product. Clinical Training: Toilet Training

Neuro-disability and potty training might not seem like natural companions, given the numerous challenges involved. This seminar aims to bridge that gap by introducing an innovative approach to toilet training children with complex disabilities. Unlike traditional methods, this approach is based on neurological research that learning isn't an instant revelation but rather a process rooted in neuroplasticity. Drawing inspiration from holistic therapy techniques, it focuses on building the foundational neurological skills essential for success. Through real-life case studies, attendees will gain a step-by-step understanding of how to tackle training and reap its many benefits.

This training will take place over 2 hours max.

Clinical Training: Fundamentals of Standing and the Hip Joint in CP

Expand your understanding of typical standing development, the physical and psychosocial benefits of supportive standing, and the challenges in standing therapy and assessment. Address common questions during standing frame assessments and explore solutions to overcome these challenges. Learn about typical hip development, the effects of biomechanical loading on the femur, and how abnormal loading in children with cerebral palsy guides conservative treatments to minimize hip displacement and optimise function.

This session will take place over a half day (9am - 1pm)

Objectives for session:

  1. Understand the development of postural balance and standing ability in typically developing children and its significance.
  2. Explore the challenges faced by children with neuromotor delays and the role of a multidisciplinary approach in standing therapy.
  3. Review recent evidence on standing therapy and its impact on assessment and prescription practices.
  4. Examine the typical development of the hip during childhood, explore hip development in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and how proximal hip geometry influences hip displacement.
  5. Understand how the above insights inform therapy practices and decision-making.
  6. Reflect on the importance of an individualized approach to abducted standing.
  7. Engage with case studies to apply knowledge and develop practical problem-solving skills

Target audience: Clinicians (Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists) and therapy assistants who work with standing frames.

Clinical Training: The Development and Assessment of Head and Trunk control (SATCo) and the role of Targeted Training

Review typical trunk control development in children and its differences in those with neuromotor disabilities. The session will introduce the Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control (SATCo) and Targeted Training (TT) therapy, along with practical techniques to enhance upright postural control and function, particularly for children with more severe disabilities.

This session will take place over a half day (9am - 1pm)

Objectives for session:

  1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the typical development of trunk control and posture across various age stages.
  2. Explore and gain in-depth knowledge of the SATCo as a clinical tool.

  4. Apply insights from SATCo assessments to design and implement targeted therapeutic interventions, including TT therapy, for trunk control improvement.
  5. Engage with case studies to apply knowledge and develop practical problem-solving skills

Target audience: Clinicians (Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists) and therapy assistants who work with children with reduced trunk control.

Clinical Training: Fundamentals of Walking and Muscle in CP

Gain an understanding of the physical and psychosocial benefits of active mobility for children with additional needs, while exploring common challenges and solutions in walking frame prescription. Review skeletal muscle architecture, recent research on muscle development in children with cerebral palsy, and active interventions, such as pedalling, aimed at improving range of motion through stretching and strengthening.

This session will take place over a half day (9am - 1pm)

Objectives for session:

  1. Review the benefits and challenges of walking and using walking frames for children with additional needs.
  2. Examine different types of walking frames, evaluating their advantages and disadvantages.
  3. Identify common issues children face when using walking frames and explore strategies to address them.
  4. Understand the anatomy and function of skeletal muscle in typically developing children.
  5. Learn how spasticity in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) alters muscle function compared to typical muscle development.
  6. Apply knowledge of CP muscle characteristics to guide therapy treatments, including the use of pedalling to improve mobility.
  7. Engage with case studies to apply knowledge and develop practical problem-solving skills

Target audience: Clinicians (Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists) and therapy assistants who work with walking frames.
